Professor Dr. Jamal Zaid Al-Kilani, Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Chairman of the An-Najah Center for Religious Studies, Participates in the International Conference titled "Environmental Justice for Palestine” in Jericho

On Tuesday, December, 10, 2024, The activities of the "Environmental Justice for Palestine" conference, organized by the Environmental Education Center, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land, in collaboration with the National Committee of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Palestine, were launched under the patronage and in the presence of Bishop Dr. Sani Ibrahim Azar, President of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land. The conference saw the participation of various official, civil, and international institutions, including Dr. Hussein Hamayel, Governor of Jericho and the Jordan Valley; Nisreen Al-Tamimi, Representative of the President of the Environment Quality Authority; Murad Al-Madani, Legal Advisor; the Executive Director of Environmental Education; the President of the National Committee of IUCN in Palestine; and Professor Jamal Zaid Al-Kilani, Chairman of An-Najah Center for Religious Studies (ANCERS).
Professor Al-Kilani contributed to the conference with an intervention on the role of religions in halting environmental genocide, emphasizing that the foundational relationship between humanity and the environment is one of friendship, cooperation, and stewardship, entrusted to mankind by his Creator to carry out the tasks of succession and reconstruction.
In its closing statement, the conference called for the initiation of a national plan in collaboration with Arab and international partners to conduct a comprehensive survey of the damages resulting from the aggression on Gaza. It further advocated for the preparation of a plan to rehabilitate the affected habitats and environments, aiming for reconstruction and environmental recovery.
The conference also urged the use of religious teachings in raising environmental awareness, highlighting the destruction, violations, and threats to which the Palestinian environment and its biodiversity are exposed.
